Liverpool react to reported Celtic approach for club stalwart

By Alex Taylor

Liverpool have no plans to sell Jon Flanagan amid claims that the 23-year-old could be heading to Celtic this summer, according to reports.

The Liverpool Echo claim that, contrary to reports in Scotland on Saturday morning, the defender is unlikely to leave Anfield this summer.

The Scottish Sun reported that Celtic have made an official approach for Flanagan and are keen on a season-long loan deal.

But the Echo report that Liverpool are not interested in cashing in on their home-gown starlet or granting him a reunion at Parkhead with ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

The player made his comeback earlier this year after nearly two years on the sidelines with serious knee problems.

He captained Liverpool in their 3-2 defeat at Southampton in March but was mainly used as deputy to senior right-back Nathaniel Clyne.

Rodgers has also been linked to his former club with moves for Andre Wisdom, Joe Gomez and Joe Allen, as well as Steven Caulker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Anfield.

In other Celtic transfer news, Galatasaray are ready to open talks with the Bhoy’s over a summer move for Stefan Johansen.
