Leicester defender Ben Chilwell is expected to sign a new deal with the club, according to a report.

But the Foxes look set to extend the stay of the youngster, whose current contract expires next year.

ESPN FC claim that the 19-year-old will sign a new contract with the Premier League champions and compete with Austrian captain Christian Fuchs for a starting place.

The left-back spent the first half of last season on loan at Huddersfield under the management of Jurgen Klopp’s former Borussia Dortmund colleague David Wagner.

The England Under-21 international made eight appearances for the Yorkshire side and it is reported that Wagner recommended the full-back to Klopp after a successful loan.

Liverpool have already failed in this window to sign left-back Lucas Digne who opted for a move to Barcelona, despite a late attempt to bring the Frenchman to Anfield.

Manager Klopp looks keen on a new left-back in this window and will now have to look elsewhere after missing out on Leicester’s wonderkid who is tipped for great things.

The Merseyside club have had a lot of success though already in the window and announced their sixth signing on Friday for goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
