Liverpool tipped to axe Ibrahima Konate and teammate v Man City amid 'big' verdict - pundit

Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson will return to the Liverpool starting XI for the trip to Man City on Sunday, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Premier League goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is confident the duo will return in place of Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate.

Keita, 27, and Konate, 22, were given the nod to start the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter final against Benfica.

Both players impressed in a 3-1 win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds travel to the Etihad next in a top-of-the-table clash in the Premier League.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if Keita and Konate did enough to keep their place in the side, Robinson said:

“I’m sure Henderson and Matip will come back in. Henderson definitely will. They need his leadership qualities and passing for a game of this magnitude.

“It is such a big game at the weekend. They need to win, in my opinion.

“I can see Liverpool dropping points in the run-in. They have the tougher games. There is a Merseyside derby in there. I know Everton haven’t been great but it is a Merseyside derby.

“Liverpool definitely have tougher away games than City so Sunday could be decisive.”

Henderson has contributed three goals and six assists in 43 appearances across all competitions this season.

Matip has been the preferred partner for Virgil van Dijk this term, with 34 appearances to his name.
