Liverpool tipped to launch new Sarr move in January after what Phillips has seen

Liverpool may re-visit a move for in-form Watford forward Ismaila Sarr in January.

That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds long-term interest in the blisteringly quick 23-year-old.

Sarr has enjoyed an electric start to the 2021-22 Premier League campaign.

His goal against Newcastle United on Saturday was his fourth in six league appearances this term.

According to Liverpool Echo (31st August), the Senegal international has been on Liverpool’s watchlist.

Sarr has three years remaining on his contract at Vicarage Road.

When asked by Football Insider if the Reds may revisit a move for the Watford attacker next year in light of his form, Phillips said:

“They might look at him again in January.

“Yes, Liverpool have players that can step in and do a job but do they have enough options at the top end of the pitch?

“[Divock] Origi and [Takumi] Minamino got amongst the goals in midweek and perhaps that can kickstart both of their seasons.

“Liverpool want to be challenging this season though and I fear they haven’t got the depth in their squad to cope with an injury to Mane or Salah. They might have to dip into the transfer market to bring someone in who is going to give them goals.

“I don’t know whether [Jurgen] Klopp could rely on Origi and Minamino.

“Sarr is certainly a top-quality player and he would definitely be an upgrade on what Liverpool currently have in reserve.”
