Liverpool will listen to offers this summer for Simon Mignolet even though he’s blown Jurgen Klopp away with his attitude and commitment in training, Football Insider understands.
The Belgium goalkeeper, 31, has played second fiddle this season to Alisson, who has had an outstanding debut campaign since his £67million arrival from Roma.
It is unsurprising in one sense that Liverpool are ready to offload their back-up keeper, given that he is on a contract worth not far off £100,000-a-week and has made just two appearances all season.
But Mignolet has not been far from a disruptive or even frustrated figure behind the scenes at the club’s Melwood training headquarters.
A Liverpool source told Football Insider that Klopp has been hugely impressed at the work-rate, professionalism and performances of the Belgian on a daily basis.
He has put his personal situation to the side to galvanise and encourage Alisson, while also pushing himself to improve his own game.
Mignolet did speak publicly of his frustration that he was not allowed to leave last summer after Liverpool loaned-out Loris Karius but has subsequently been the epitome of professionalism.
A transfer back to Belgium has been mooted in his homeland, but that is considered unlikely as even the league’s biggest clubs could not afford his wages.
