Liverpool have been keeping tabs on West Ham star Jarrod Bowen in case Mohamed Salah leaves the club at the end of the season, according to the club's former scout.

Mick Brown who worked as a senior scout at the London Stadium before leaving alongside David Moyes and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the England international is seen as the "perfect fit" for Liverpool.

This comes amid uncertainty over Salah's future, as the winger's current contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season with no new deal in sight as things stand.

Bowen is viewed as a potential replacement for the Egyptian, and Brown explained that he would be capable of stepping straight into the Reds' starting XI.

They have been long-term admirers of the 28-year-old although there is a feeling that he would prefer to remain with the East London club.

The winger is also on a long-term contract at West Ham, with his deal set to run until 2030.

He made his long-awaited return from injury in the Hammers' 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on 3 February, and scored to put his side ahead after 42 minutes.

Liverpool plot surprise move to sign West Ham star Jarrod Bowen

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that remains the case but is unlikely to deter interest from the country's top clubs.

"Bowen is a fantastic asset to West Ham," he told Football Insider.

"Whether he plays out wide or through the middle, he has a level where he produces quality moments every time he's on the pitch.

"What he's done there since his move from Hull is quite staggering, really.

"We speak a lot about players who could make a step up to one of the top clubs, and he's one of those.

"I know he's settled at West Ham, he's a West Ham player, so that obviously plays a part.

"But sometimes there comes a time where managers come and go, certain things happen at a club, and you start to think it might be time for a new move.

"You could make the case that he'd be capable of playing for any top team in the country.

"Let's say Arsenal lost Saka for any reason, Bowen would do brilliantly there.

"Liverpool have been keeping an eye on him actually, because of the situation they're in with Salah, Bowen would be the perfect player to come in and replace him.

"He would be more than capable and he'd do a good job for Liverpool.

"So that might be one they look to do in the summer, even though he's happy and playing for West Ham, they might see if they can tempt him."
