Andoni Iraola exploring Florian Wirtz's best position in Liverpool's team

Andoni Iraola is keeping Florian Wirtz in his plans at Liverpool amid rumours of a possible upcoming exit, sources have told Football Insider.

Wirtz has started the season slowly following a tough debut season on Merseyside.

The German playmaker registered 15 goal contributions in 49 appearances last term, failing to live up to his £100million fee from Bayer Leverkusen.

He has been linked with a possible exit from Liverpool ahead of the January window if he continues to struggle.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Iraola does not want him to leave and is continuing his search to find the system and position that suits Wirtz best.

He has started in all four of the Reds' league games so far this season, but has picked up just one assist in five competitive appearances.

Bayern Munich reportedly retain an interest in signing Wirtz, having been in the race for his services before he joined Liverpool.

Fans and pundits have been critical of his performances in the early weeks of the campaign, but Iraola views him as a work in progress and is not looking to let him leave Anfield anytime soon.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "They're still relying on him. I don't think there are any plans on Liverpool's end to offload Florian Wirtz anytime soon. I don't think they're ready to write him off just yet.

"He was very impressive in that Champions League win against Atletico Madrid earlier this month as well. So look, it's up to Andoni Iraola to find the best position for him in the team and try and get the best out of Florian Wirtz."

Wirtz's progress at Liverpool has been hindered by the poor form of his fellow midfielders over the last 12 months.

Iraola was keen to add to his midfield options in the summer, but the club instead focused on trying to sign attackers and defenders.

Sources have exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool are interested in Monaco star Camara, who was close to joining Chelsea but saw a move fall through on Deadline Day.
