Liverpool 'working on' deal to sign Lamine Camara after preliminary talks

Liverpool are working on a deal to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara after holding talks with his agent.

The 22-year-old is expected to become available in the January transfer window after his late move to Chelsea fell through on deadline day, placing rival clubs on high alert.

Liverpool are assessing a number of midfield options ahead of the January transfer window, with the position emerging as a priority, and are believed to be among his suitors.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that talks have been held with Camara's agent about the possibility of a January move to Liverpool.

This comes after the Senegal international's agent spoke out about his failed move to Stamford Bridge, slamming Monaco for their role and treatment of the player.

Camara, meanwhile, has since clarified that he remains committed to the Ligue 1 club, but has not ruled out the possibility of moving on if a deal emerges in the future.

Could Liverpool make a move to sign Lamine Camara?

Brown told Football Insider on 16 September that Liverpool are plotting a move to sign Camara and have identified him as a leading target to strengthen in midfield.

The Reds were tipped to bring in a new midfielder in the summer window, but missed out, and the 22-year-old is now believed to be high on their list of mid-season options.

Following talks with the player's agent, who is keen to land him a big-money move away from Monaco, there is a growing feeling a deal can be agreed in January.

"Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes," Brown told Football Insider.

"Liverpool will be keeping an eye on how he gets on for Monaco, but there is definitely a deal to be done as we saw when he nearly joined Chelsea.

"His agent has been very outspoken about trying to get him a move, so I expect Liverpool will have held talks with him about the possibility of signing him in January.

"They'll know his demands, they'll have done their homework about his attitude and how he might fit into the squad, because it's important they don't just rush into it.

"It's something Liverpool have been working on, they're doing their due dilligence, and there is a real possibility they could do a deal."

Will Chelsea reignite their interest in signing Camara?

Speculation about a potential move to Liverpool comes after Chelsea failed to sign Camara on transfer deadline day, in what proved to be a dramatic late deal.

Despite an agreement being reached between Chelsea, Monaco and Camara, the deal ultimately fell through after the French club pulled the plug on his sale.

Football Insider revealed on 14 September that Chelsea must first repair their relationship with Monaco if they are to reignite their interest in Camara in January.

The Blues are understood to be "very angry" with the Ligue 1 outfit and accused them of unprofessional behaviour following their deadline-day antics.

However, the West London outfit remain huge admirers of the Senegal international, and have not removed him from their radar after their failed attempt.
