Andoni Iraola has new Harvey Elliott plan after Liverpool return
Andoni Iraola is planning to offer Harvey Elliott a chance to impress in pre-season to win his place back in the Liverpool squad, sources have told Football Insider.
Elliott suffered a nightmare out on loan at Aston Villa last season as he rarely featured under Unai Emery throughout the campaign.
The Villans were reluctant to offer Elliott enough game time to trigger his £35million obligation-to-buy clause.
He is now back at Liverpool for pre-season under new boss Andoni Iraola, with a decision on his future looming in the coming months.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Iraola is keen to take a look at Elliott and will include him in his plans for next season if he impresses in training.
The Reds are keen to add to their attacking options this summer after Mo Salah's departure, with Elliott possibly set to return to the fold.
Harvey Elliott to be given a second chance at Liverpool by Andoni Iraola
Elliott only featured nine times for Villa last season, with just four Premier League appearances for his loan club as his last outing came in mid-March.
He left Merseyside because Arne Slot did not see a place for him in his squad, so Iraola's arrival has given him a much better chance of returning to the Liverpool fold.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's obviously a big few weeks coming up for Harvey Elliott, a chance to impress the new manager in pre-season, and if he does do that, he could win his place back in that Liverpool side.
"It's a clean slate for everybody under a new manager in Andoni Iraola, and I think he'll give him a chance to impress as well. I think Liverpool won't be rushing him out the door."
Gilberto Mora on Liverpool's radar amid Iraola search
Iraola has made adding to his attack an early priority in the summer window, having already signed Spain star Victor Munoz.
Elliott's return to the fold could shake things up in that regard, but other targets are on the agenda as a move for Yan Diomande seems unlikely.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Liverpool are interested in Mexican starlet Mora, who can play across the front line and in attacking midfield.
The 17-year-old is already a regular for his country and has scored six times in 20 appearances for Tijuana this season.
