Liverpool are plotting a move to sign Mexico's breakout World Cup star Gilberto Mora this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 17-year-old featured in four of Mexico's five World Cup games, including against England, and is regarded as one of the best young players in the world.

Currently on the books at Club Tijuana in Mexico, the attacking midfielder is attracting interest from all of Europe's elite clubs, with Liverpool the latest to join the race.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Liverpool are primed to make a move if they are given any indication Mora could move on.

However, there is also believed to be interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, such is the admiration for his talent.

Whether Liverpool can get ahead of their rivals to do a deal is uncertain, but they have now registered their interest and are prepared to swoop should he become available.

Could make a move to sign Gilberto Mora?

Football Insider revealed on 1 June that Liverpool are putting plans in place to improve their squad in at least three key positions following Andoni Iraola's arrival.

However, there is always a focus on recruiting the world's most talented young players, and they hope to be competitive in the race to sign Mora.

After his eye-catching performances for Mexico at the World Cup, discussions are set to be held about his future at club level, with Liverpool registering their interest.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It won't just be Liverpool who are interested in Mora, you've probably got all of Europe's big guns who would be interested in the Mexican prodigy.

"He's one of the breakout stars of the World Cup. Liverpool are one of those clubs who've registered an interest in Mora, and are keeping tabs on Mora.

"Real Madrid are interested in him, you've got Barcelona, Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich. If there's any indication that he is ready to make a move, I'm sure you'll have all those big teams after him.

"It's going to be an open race for Mora right now, and because he's so highly rated and one of the best young players in world football right now, you'll have all the biggest clubs in the world trying to sign him."

Which other players are on Liverpool's radar?

Despite their interest in Mora and plans to sign the talented young midfielder, plans are also being put in place to strengthen Iraola's side for the immediate future.

A number of key positions have been identified across the starting XI, with the Reds keen to improve on what was a frustrating season last time out.

Football Insider revealed on 9 July that Liverpool are lining up a move to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille, and could be prepared to loan him back to the French club immediately.

Much like Mora, the midfielder has impressed with his performances at the World Cup, but Lille are extremely reluctant to sell and a loan agreement could be the only way to get it done.

Meanwhile, sources have indicated that Lille will demand close to the £100million mark for the starlet, who has attracted high-profile interest with his displays for Morocco.
