Curtis Jones sets sights on Liverpool transfer after bust-up - 'He is not happy'

Curtis Jones is set to push for a move away from Liverpool this summer as he is no longer happy with his role at Anfield.

The 25-year-old has been growing increasingly frustrated at his lack of involvement on the pitch, while behind-the-scenes issues are now starting to crop up.

Meanwhile, a video emerged from Liverpool's pre-season tour where Jones appears to take issue with Dominik Szoboszlai for not handing him the captain's armband.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Jones is now increasingly likely to leave Liverpool and believes a fresh start is now required away from Merseyside.

Growing tensions behind the scenes as well as his disillusion with the role he has played in recent seasons are considered unlikely to be resolved before the window closes.

Interest has grown in the midfielder's situation from clubs both in the Premier League and across Europe, with a move abroad considered his most likely next step.

Will Liverpool accept offers for Curtis Jones?

Football Insider first revealed back in April that Jones is not happy at Liverpool and will look to move on in this window should any clubs show a serious interest.

The academy product, who has been a first-team regular for his boyhood club since making his debut in 2019, is now widely expected to leave the clubs this summer.

The on-pitch bust-up with Szoboszlai has only confirmed conerns that he has grown unhappy at the club, and placed clubs on alert over his potential availability.

"It's become quite clear not that Curtis Jones is keen to leave Liverpool," Brown told Football Insider.

"He is not happy with his role at the club, his playing time, the position he's been asked to play in across the last couple of seasons, or where he ranks in the pecking order.

"Now, judging by that video that we've seen, it appears he's not happy with the captaincy either and feels he should be more involed at that level.

"I think when issues and frustrations like that start to crop up, that's when it becomes clear that a player needs a fresh start, a new club, maybe even a new country.

"It seems that things just aren't quite going to go the way he's wanted them to at Liverpool, and that's fine, it happens sometimes.

"But there's no point having him sulking and hanging his head, or arguing with his teammates on the pitch. It's better for everybody if he moves on, and all parties will be keen to make it happen."

Which clubs are interested in signing Jones?

Jones' desier to leave Liverpool has placed a number of clubs on alert, not just in the Premier League, but also across Europe, with clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.

The likes of Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have both been linked with moves for the midfielder this summer, while Inter Milan have emerged as the front-runners.

Brown told Football Insider in June that Jones is prepared to snub a move to another Premier League clubs in favour of a move abroad, placing Inter in the box seat.

The Italian club have reportedly made contact already with Liverpool this summer, and could work towards getting a deal over the line before transfer deadline day.

Any departure will have to be on Liverpool's terms at a fee that suits them, but with Jones keen to leave and Inter keen to lure him away, that deal appears to be edging closer.
