Dominik Szoboszlai: The games Liverpool star could miss after confirmed news
Andoni Iraola has revealed that Dominik Szoboszlai is set to miss "some time" out through injury after he was forced off in the early stages of Liverpool's 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.
The Hungary international missed games against Manchester City and LASK following the international break, and now looks set to be sidelined for more.
The issue appears to be the same one that had already kept him out, with the injury related to the midfielder's thigh.
Szoboszlai will undergo further tests to find out exactly how long he will spend on the injury table, with Iraola facing a nervous wait.
The 25-year-old is a significant miss for Liverpool, with his injury problems a particular concern considering that he is coming off the best season of his career.
Szoboszlai scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in 53 games across all competitions, but is yet to rediscover that kind of form for his new manager.
What did Andoni Iraola say?
It was not difficult to tell that Szoboszlai had felt something and needed to come off on Saturday.
The Hungary international had gone down off the ball, wincing as he looked towards the Liverpool bench.
The medical staff quickly came to the decision that he could no longer continue, but his appearance on the bench in the second half was encouraging.
Jeremie Frimpong would be another casualty later in the game, lasting just seven minutes off the bench before he was forced off in the second half.
"I think we have a very delicate situation. We were coming from playing Champions League away two days ago, we arrived [home] late at night and probably with not a proper recovery," Iraola confirmed after the game.
"You are in doubt between the players that have already started two games and are very tired, or the players that are recovering from injuries but you're probably not 100 per cent certain.
"They were different cases. Dom felt the same injury, it's not a new injury and was probably not healed enough, so we will need more time with him. Jeremie's was new, I think he finished cramping the other day [against LASK].
"I put him on because playing against 10, going forward I thought he could give us more than Ronald [Araujo]. After, I value a lot and he was very good, Victor playing as a right-back. It will mean we will lose Dom and Jeremie for some time, yes."
What games could Dominik Szoboszlai miss?
Szoboszlai's injury does not, at all, come at a good time for Liverpool, with key games approaching.
Ryan Gravenberch's return from suspension will be helpful, but Iraola would have hoped to pair the two.
Next week will see the Reds host Brighton, who have won their last five consecutive games across all competitions and battered the champions before the break.
Clashes against Chelsea and Arsenal follow at the end of October and the start of November, before Manchester United and Everton in November.
Szoboszlai's absence should be a matter of weeks, not months, but it remains to be seen just how long Liverpool will be forced to wait.
