FSG to sell Liverpool to Jeff Bezos 'in the next 12 months' - Finance Guru

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) could sell the rest of their stake in Liverpool Football Club ahead of the 2027-28 campaign at Anfield.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Amit Bhatia and Co. are likely to purchase more than just their minority share.

The 46-year-old British-Indian businessman has formed a consortium, one including Jeff Bezos, which now owns 38 per cent of the 20-time Premier League champions.

FSG remain the decision-makers on Merseyside, but there is every chance that this could be their final season in charge after almost 16 years.

1892 Holdings, Bhatia's consortium, reportedly has a first-refusal option to buy a controlling stake if FSG decides to sell more of the club in the next 12 months.

Bhatia and Bezos are now being tipped for majority ownership, with a very sped-up timeline emerging at Anfield.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has predicted another change to the ownership situation at Anfield, possibly before the next campaign kicks off.

"Look, there's been so much change. It's not just at Liverpool, we know that across the league there's been loads of change," he said.

"But Liverpool are almost like Man City where you've had multiple layers of change from management, coaching, football operations, to all of the transfer stuff.

"And with Liverpool now, there could be a change of ownership, probably. Certainly in part, but probably completely over the next 12 months.

"They've got the option, and I think if you see Amit Bhatia and his interviews, I think he's likely to. I would expect them to exercise their option."

Liverpool must replace Richard Hughes at Anfield

While it is all well and good dreaming about the future at Anfield, FSG have certain problems to fix, but they can't jump into anything too quickly.

Richard Hughes has left his role as sporting director, moving to Saudi Arabia after just 15 months, and he has left a huge hole on Merseyside.

Borson has already warned the Reds over replacing him with the wrong figure, though, using Manchester United's struggles as a serious red flag.

Andoni Iraola is already being backed for greatness at Anfield, but he needs the right figures supporting him behind the scenes for the years to come.
