Liverpool big earner could be hit with new punishment from the club - Finance guru

Alisson could be punished further behind the scenes at Liverpool after being slapped with a fine from the FA.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the goalkeeper's already harsh £8,000 fine could be increased.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper was seen stamping on the electronic substituion board before storming down the tunnel after the Reds' 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest last month.

He was wrapped up in controversy after bringing down Neco Williams inside the area for a penalty, a decision which was upheld by VAR.

It was alleged that Alisson acted in an "improper manner," with the goalkeeper accepting his punishment, but it could get worse for the veteran.

Liverpool will likely have to replace the electronic board and Alisson's outburst, and that could be coming straight out of the player's pockets.

'I wouldn't be shocked if Liverpool punished Alisson'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has predicted the star goalkeeper to be punished behind the scenes after losing control at Anfield.

"It's still quite a lot and I wouldn't be totally shocked if Liverpool wanted some money out of him as well if he's damaged the board," he said.

"£8000 is quite a lot, isn't it? It feels like quite a lot. Even though he's very wealthy, it's a big deal, really.

"I do always think it's funny when people throw these numbers around when players are fined by either the authorities or by their clubs.

"They've been fined two weeks wages as if it's nothing. If it is that amount on two weeks wages, even if you earn a lot of money, then clearly it's quite painful to pay out.

"And I'm sure it's quite painful to pay out £8000 as a fine. It's still money that you're annoyed that you've just thrown down the toilet because you got in a bit of a mood about something."

Liverpool goalkeeper could be in his final season

Many at Anfield will argue that Alisson is not the goalkeeper that he used to be, but he remains one of the best in the Premier League.

Despite that, he could be in his final season on Merseyside, with Mick Brown revealing to Football Insider that there are no plans for a contract extension.

The 33-year-old's contract is set to expire next summer without an extension, and the Reds will be desperate for his replacement soon.

Giorgi Mamardashvili signed from Valencia in the summer of 2024 before returning to Spain on loan, and he has not yet convinced the fanbase that he can be the next No.1.
