Liverpool have an Alisson problem which stats make impossible to ignore
Alisson Becker was barely tested against Brentford, but his overall stats from this and last season are a worrying look for Liverpool.
The Brazilian has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world since making the move to Anfield back in 2018.
He is now in his final year at the Merseyside club, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2026-27 season.
However, whether or not Liverpool will seek to keep the 34-year-old longer remains to be seen,
And their minds may already be made up, with data pointing to a clear picture of a player in decline.
Now might be the right time to begin the long goodbye.
Alisson's Liverpool regression is clear in updated Premier League stats
Alisson only had two shots to deal with against Brentford, with one of those ending up in the back of the net.
However, he did prevent more goals than he conceded, with FotMob sharing that he prevented 0.21.
Although it is not much, that is a rare feat for the Brazilian, particularly over the last season and the start of this one.
This season, the 34-year-old is in the negative for goals prevented, with -0.25.
Meanwhile, his save percentage of 66.7 per cent has seen a dip since his peak years in the English top flight.
As stated, last season was just as poor; he had -2.58 goals prevented and a save percentage of 64.8 per cent.
For context, his stats averaged out over the previous five years combined result in a save percentage of 73.26 per cent and a goals prevented of 3.31.
There has been a noticeable drop-off, and it is something Liverpool must begin thinking about now, rather than waiting until it is too late.
Planning must be underway now.
Liverpool already preparing for Alisson successor
The Reds do have Giorgi Marmarashvili in their ranks, but the Georgian has failed to catch the eye during his time on Merseyside.
However, should Alisson depart, the 26-year-old would certainly be capable of filling in between the sticks.
Liverpool, though, have set their eyes on a successor far down the line following their summer pick-up of Lucca Brughmans.
The young Belgian is spending the season with Genk, where he will then move to Liverpool in 2027-28.
His stock is quite high, showcased by the Anfield outfit making him the most valuable under-20 goalkeeper in the world, after having a £30million plus bid accepted.
