Liverpool ‘hopeful’ of agreeing Bradley Barcola deal as PSG discuss compromise
Liverpool remain hopeful of signing Bradley Barcola as PSG move closer to a compromise that would allow him to move to Merseyside, sources have told Football Insider.
PSG have been holding out for over £120million for Barcola amid serious interest from Liverpool this summer.
The Reds want to sign him for a fee closer to £100m, though, meaning talks over a move have stalled in the last few weeks.
Luis Enrique has bolstered his attacking ranks in the meantime, with the signing of Maghnes Akliouche and impending arrivals of Ferran Torres and Mika Godts.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, PSG will be more willing to lower their demands for Barcola after their flurry of signings is completed.
A compromise being on the cards would massively boost Liverpool's chances of signing the 23-year-old, given the current difference in valuations.
Liverpool given Bradley Barcola encouragement after PSG signings
Liverpool need to move quickly to get a deal over the line, with sources recently revealing to Football Insider that Arsenal want to hijack their move for Barcola in their own search for a new main winger.
The 23-year-old is keen to join up with Andoni Iraola's side in search of regular game time and the chance to be a key man for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Maybe in the next few weeks, Liverpool will be hoping that his price tag will come down. There's a willingness from Liverpool to try and sign Barcola, and they've been giving good indications that Barcola would be interested in a move to Anfield as well.
“So now, with PSG bringing in Torres and possibly Godts on top of Akliouche, you would think they would be looking to balance the books and maybe have to let some of their other attacking players go, because Luis Enrique can't fit all of them into his side.”
Cody Gakpo now Tottenham's 'top target' after long-term pursuit
The Reds' interest in Barcola has led to doubts around Gakpo's future at the club beyond this summer.
He has been linked with a move away for several months, and sources have told Football Insider that Tottenham have now made signing Gakpo a priority in the coming weeks.
The Dutchman's departure for over £60m would pave the way for Barcola to arrive on Merseyside and start each week out wide.
