Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo is now a priority target for Tottenham as they aim to continue spending big money this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Spurs are accelerating a move for Gakpo as they focus their efforts on making him their seventh senior signing of the summer window.

The Dutchman has come in for some criticism after struggling at Liverpool alongside many of his teammates throughout last season.

Tottenham have held a long-term interest in his services and Roberto De Zerbi is keen to see him arrive in N17.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the Lilywhites are set to push forward with a move for Gakpo after raising funds with several sales.

Cristian Romero and Djed Spence are both closing in on respective moves away from the club that could raise in excess of £60million combined.

Gakpo's price tag is reportedly set at around £60m, so his arrival would likely take Spurs' summer spending past the £300m mark.

He has registered 32 goals and 18 assists in 127 Premier League games for the Reds since 2022, and Andoni Iraola would like to keep hold of him for the time being.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Obviously, Spurs have spent heavily this summer, and it doesn't seem that they're planning to stop anytime soon as well.

“They're going to bring in some money from the likes of Romero leaving for Atletico Madrid, Djed Spence going to Milan, so that'll help balance the books. Gakpo is a top target for Tottenham. He's been somebody that's been on their radar for all summer."

Tottenham encouraged as Folarin Balogun ‘interested’ in transfer

Folarin Balogun interested in Tottenham move as new striker eyed

Spurs are not stopping at Gakpo as they spend big this summer, with recent reports claiming that they have been offered the chance to sign Monaco striker Balogun.

The former Arsenal striker impressed for the USA at the World Cup after netting 19 goals in 43 appearances for the Ligue 1 side last season.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Balogun is keen on joining Spurs as he looks to take the next step in his career.

It remains to be seen whether one of Richarlison or Dominic Solanke move on before the window closes.
