Liverpool plan to accept new Federico Chiesa offer

Published on:

Liverpool are planning to accept new offers for Federico Chiesa when the January transfer window opens.

The 28-year-old is unlikely to play a part in Andoni Iraola's plans for the season, with a muscle injury meaning he has missed the early stages of the new manager's tenure.

Questions have long been asked about the Italy international's future at Anfield, and he could have left in the closing stages of the summer window, but no offers were forthcoming.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool are now attempting to drum up interest in Chiesa ahead of the January transfer window.

Following the big-money arrival of Bradley Barcola during the summer, the winger has been forced further down the pecking order, and that is unlikely to change.

Liverpool have been keen to strengthen out wide since Mohamed Salah's departure, and despite missing out on key targets, Chiesa is still seen as surplus to requirements.

Will Federico Chiesa leave Liverpool in January?

Football Insider first revealed back in June that Liverpool had told Chiesa to find a new club and that he was unlikely to be part of their plans for the upcoming season.

Despite having remained beyond the end of the summer transfer window, the club's stance has not changed, as the Italy winger has no part to play in the manager's plans.

Instead, they are now hopeful that they will agree to sell him when the January transfer window opens, by which time he should have recovered from his injury.

"It's been clear for quite a while now that Federico Chiesa doesn't have much of a future at Liverpool," Brown told Football Insider.

"He hasn't been a regular starter there under any of the managers he's played under, and I don't think that's going to change now because Andoni Iraola doesn't rate him either.

"He's obviously had this injury at the start of the season which hasn't helped, but if the manager can't see him in training, how is he supposed to get a good impression?

"It might not be the player's fault, the timing is unfortunate, but ultimately that's the way these things can go sometimes.

"Liverpool have been looking to bring in new wingers, they got Barcola in during the summer and they missed out on some of their other targets late in the window.

"It's clearly a position they have been looking to strenghten, and they could look again in January, which to me suggests they don't have high hopes for Chiesa's role.

"If somebody comes in with an offer for him in the transfer window, then I expect they will be open to those discussions and he could be allowed to move on."

How does Chiesa feel about leaving Liverpool?

Amid speculation surrounding Chiesa's long-term future at Liverpool, doubts have crept in about his own plans, given his lack of playing time since his move to Anfield.

Since joining from Juventus in 2024, the winger has started just nine games across all competitions and has failed to establish himself as a regular starter under any manager.

Football Insider revealed last month that Chiesa will seek a move away from Liverpool in the January transfer window if his playing time does not improve under Iraola.

The winger has returned to first-team training during the international break, and will be able to challenge for more regular minutes in the upcoming fixtures.

However, amid doubts about his place in the squad and how the manager views him, he may find it hard to earn playing time and therefore could look to move on.
