Liverpool should be encouraged to accelerate their pursuit of Gilberto Mora after his latest standout performance for Mexico.

Mora, 17, is one of the hottest prospects in world football right now as he shines for Tijuana and Mexico.

He earned huge plaudits in his home country last season and was included as a wildcard option in their World Cup squad for the tournament on home soil.

Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool have registered their interest in Mora as they search for some long-term solutions to solve their issues in midfield.

The teen starlet once again proved his quality with a fine showing as Mexico held Colombia to a draw in a friendly over the weekend.

Mora's continued impressive performances must see Liverpool increase their interest to beat off competition and land his signature in the January window.

He has already scored five times in seven Liga MX appearances for Tijuana this season, and that strong form in front of goal has carried over to international duty.

He rescued a draw against top opposition in Colombia on Sunday with his maiden strike for the Mexico senior side, breaking through the lines and showing real composure to confuse the visitors' backline and slot home for 1-1.

Not only did he score, but Mora emerged with the best completion rate (94 per cent, 32/34) of any starter who made over 11 passes in the game, while also creating a chance, making seven ball recoveries and winning the second-most ground duels of any player (7).

He was also fouled three times and completed two of three attempted dribbles, so it came as little surprise to see him voted as Mexico's MVP on social media after the clash.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Tijuana want to keep Mora until next summer at least, as they look to keep building his value before an eventual sale.

Liverpool should clearly be ramping up plans to make him a January signing, as he looks ready to make an impact at the highest level.
