Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch hits new low, his stats are damning
Ryan Gravenberch's nightmare start to the season is showing no signs of improvement after his latest poor showing for the Netherlands.
The Liverpool midfielder was not at the races as the Netherlands emerged with a 2-1 win over Serbia on Sunday evening.
Gravenberch has only started two of Liverpool's first five Premier League games as he struggles for form.
The 24-year-old was not at his best throughout certain parts of last season and Andoni Iraola now looks to have settled on a preferred starting midfield that does not include him.
His latest performance for his country shows that Liverpool can expect him to continue to struggle when club football returns next weekend.
Iraola's side take on Man City in a huge top-of-the-table clash, with Gravenberch unlikely to be trusted once again.
Ryan Gravenberch still unable to rediscover his past form away from Liverpool
Gravenberch was left out of the Reds' starting eleven for their two wins over Bournemouth and Tottenham directly before the international break.
He has still been counted on by new Dutch boss Xavi in this Nations League campaign, making his third start of the break as they hosted Serbia in Eindhoven on Sunday.
Gravenberch struggled once more, as he completed just 77 per cent (24/31) of his attempted passes, made just two defensive contributions and took just one touch in the visitors' penalty box.
He was dribbled past once, lost possession 10 times, and won just one of three attempted ground duels in a tough evening from a personal point of view.
Gravenberch was hooked off before the hour mark as Xavi's side pushed for a winner, with the subpar performance summing up his struggles so far this season.
Gravenberch has addressed his Liverpool struggles
The 24-year-old's drop-off last term was clear, as he struggled to replicate the form that saw him win the Premier League Young Player of the Season award in 2024-25.
Gravenberch himself admitted that he knows he needs to improve while speaking to the Reds' in-house media earlier in the season.
He said: "Of course, if I look back to last season, it was not the best season I had as well. And I want to show myself this season more and more. I want to be more of a leader now for the team, I think. So that’s what my aim is this season.
The Reds midfielder is again struggling to meet those expectations this season, and looks set for more time out of Iraola's eleven in the foreseeable future.
