Cody Gakpo was one of Liverpool’s standout performers as they rescued a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Dutch international netted the visitors’ initial equaliser to make it 1-1 at St James’ Park with a brilliant effort from distance.

On top of the goal, the 27-year-old winger was superb throughout and was arguably the club’s best player on the day.

This summer, Gakpo has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, who have been looking to reinforce their attack.

Liverpool reportedly want to keep hold of their winger, but a bid around the £60million mark could sway them to change their mind.

However, after his recent performance against Newcastle, his asking price will surely rise to around £70m.

Cody Gakpo stuns against Newcastle United

Gakpo no doubt had a difficult 2025-26 campaign.

The winger struggled throughout the season and was often blasted by his own fans for his performances.

However, he got off to the best possible start on Sunday, as his display proved to be key as Liverpool picked up a difficult point on the road.

According to Fotmob, Gakpo had a 0.24 xG, created three chances, had six shots, with one being on target, had 10 touches in the opposition box, made eight line-breaking passes and made two tackles, as well as five recoveries.

Therefore, an excellent display will surely add an extra £10m to his price tag.

Liverpool are already short on options up top, and selling Gakpo at this point in the summer window would surely be a mistake unless a gigantic bid comes in.

What other business could Liverpool conduct this summer?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Bradley Barcola remains Liverpool’s priority target going into the final days of the transfer window.

The PSG winger has been heavily linked to the Reds throughout the summer as they search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah.

The two clubs have been apart in their valuations of his services up to now, but could come to an agreement in the next nine days.

However, it remains to be seen if Andoni Iraola’s men will be able to strike a deal before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
