Sources: Liverpool brace for Florian Wirtz offer after transfer decision
Liverpool are preparing to field offers for Florian Wirtz in January as he continues to struggle for form, sources have told Football Insider.
Wirtz is set to attract attention from some top clubs across Europe, but the Reds have no plans to let him leave.
The German playmaker has continued to flounder at Anfield since the start of this campaign despite a change of manager.
He still has a long way to go to live up to his £116million package fee from Bayer Leverkusen last summer.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, some clubs could make concrete offers for Wirtz in the new year even though Andoni Iraola still sees him as central to his plans.
He has the chance to regain some form away from Liverpool under Reds legend Jurgen Klopp in the upcoming international break as Germany face four Nations League fixtures.
Florian Wirtz set for Liverpool stay despite anticipated January interest
Wirtz has looked increasingly low on confidence and is without a goal in his last 12 competitive fixtures for club and country.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Bayern Munich admire Wirtz, and they may look to make an offer in January, which is set to be rejected by Liverpool.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I don't think Liverpool are planning to get rid of him, there won't be any knee-jerk reactions or anything like that. Look, there'll always be interest in someone like Florian Wirtz because of the talent that he is...it’s inevitable.
"He's shown that for Leverkusen and for Germany, but Liverpool have no plans to offload him any time soon."
Iraola has backed Wirtz to rediscover his previous form at Liverpool
Iraola has picked Wirtz from the off in all four of their first Premier League matches so far this season.
He is clearly keen to help him become the best version of himself on Merseyside, and recently insisted that the 23-year-old can find form this season.
Speaking to reporters during the week, he said: “He should be judged like everybody else – if he plays well or doesn’t play well, or as I always say how does the team play when you are on the pitch? I am very happy with Florian. I rate him very highly. He understands what we need from him. He’s training to help us in every aspect of the game.
“Obviously he will want to add assists or goals but he is helping us in a lot of different areas and also we could give him some rest the other day that I think he needed because he has been making a good effort in the games.”
