Sources: Liverpool plan to accept Wataru Endo offer
Liverpool are open to offloading Wataru Endo before the end of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Contact has been made with a number of potentially interested clubs to make them aware of the 33-year-old's availability in the final month of the window.
After returning from an injury which saw him miss out on Japan's World Cup squad, the midfileder featured in Liverpool's freindly defeat against Monaco on 9 August.
However, he is not part of Andoni Iraola's long-term plans at Anfield, and the boss is prepared to move him on in an attempt to clear space in his squad.
Last season, Endo made just 12 appearances across all competitions, with only three of those coming from the start, and he is not likley to break back into the first-team plans.
The Japan international is under contract at Liverpool until 2027, and this summer represents the club's last chance to raise funds from his sale.
Why are Liverpool keen to cash in on Wataru Endo?
Endo has endured a frustrating few months, after he announced his retirement from international football due to his age and injuries, and now looks set to leave Liverpool.
His lack of involvement at first-team level over the last 12 months has seen him tumble down the pecking order at Anfield, and he is not expected to return to the starting XI.
His return from injury at Anfield against Monaco was his first appearance of pre-season, and while he still has a way to go to get match fit, he will be allowed to do so away from Liverpool.
Given his contract situation and place in the squad, Liverpool are keen to raise funds from his sale rather than letting him leave for free next year.
Talks have held place with a number of interested clubs as Liverpool have made them aware of Endo's availability, and there is a growing expectation he will leave this month.
Which clubs are interested in signing Endo?
Endo has had a list of long-term admirers both in the Premier League and abroad, with the midfielder having been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool in recent years.
Football Insider revealed last summer that Liverpool had decided to keep hold of Endo, in a blow to his admirers in the Premier League and those in the Bundesliga.
However, one year on, they are set to entertain offers in the closing stages of the window and are encouraging some of his long-term admirers to come forward.
Endo is believed to have been happy at Anfield since his move from VfB Stuttgart in 2023, but is now prepared to leave in search of firs-team football.
