Sources: Liverpool ready to agree urgent Rio Ngumoha deal after Bayern Munich 'agreement'
Liverpool are planning to urgently agree a new contract with Rio Ngumoha as soon as he turns 18 amid huge Bayern Munich interest, sources have told Football Insider.
Recent reports have claimed that Ngumoha is Bayern's main target for left wing ahead of the summer transfer window.
He burst onto the scene at Liverpool last term and signed his first professional contract weeks after he turned 17 last September.
The Reds have no plans to sell him this summer, despite rumours that the teenage star was dissatisfied with his game time under Arne Slot.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Liverpool will offer Ngumoha a new contract following his 18th birthday later this year.
His current deal runs until 2028, but they are keen to ward off interest from Bayern and other top clubs by agreeing fresh terms.
Ngumoha has proven his quality by impressing on international duty with England over the last week, but he will be staying at home for the World Cup.
Liverpool making plans to offer Rio Ngumoha a new contract this year
Ngumoha registered two goals and one assist in 29 appearances last season.
He felt underused by Slot prior to his departure, but could be set for increased minutes under new boss Andoni Iraola next term.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Obviously Liverpool are not planning to lose Rio Ngumoha any time soon. He's seen as a huge star for the future for the Anfield club.
"He's under contract until 2028, but I think Liverpool's officials will be very keen to sit down with Ngumoha’s representatives and try and thrash out a new deal when he turns 18 in a few months.
"Liverpool are obviously unhappy with this suggestion that Bayern Munich have agreed personal terms with the player to try and get a deal done."
Iraola assessing his squad as Alisson uncertainty looms
Iraola has some big decisions to make this summer, aside from keeping Ngumoha, which is an obvious choice to make unless he pushes to leave.
Sources have told Football Insider that Alisson could be next to leave Liverpool after Ibrahima Konate's exit was confirmed last week.
The Brazil keeper was nowhere near his best last season as he kept just eight clean sheets in 26 Premier League appearances.
Injuries have affected his performances across the last few campaigns, and Iraola could look to move him on and bring in another senior keeper soon.
