Darwin Nunez could be set for a shock return to Liverpool this summer as he edges closer to an Al-Hilal departure.

The striker joined the Saudi club from the Reds in 2025, but things have not gone to plan.

The 27-year-old was omitted from the squad earlier this year after Karim Benzema’s arrival, forcing him to sit on the sidelines for the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.

As a result, multiple Premier League clubs are reported to be interested in the Uruguay international, with one UK bookmaker now slashing the odds on an Anfield return down to 1/1.

Nunez had a mixed career at Liverpool as he struggled to score at a consistent rate.

Overall, he netted just 40 times in 143 appearances. However, he did manage to lift numerous trophies, including the Premier League title.

How much was Darwin Nunez cost Liverpool?

Despite Al-Hilal signing the striker for £53million, the club do not look likely to demand such a fee for his departure.

In fact, Football Insider revealed that Nunez’s contract may be ripped up as the Saudi side look to rid themselves of the 27-year-old.

This would mean that Liverpool could secure the attacker on a free transfer as he looks to get his career back on track.

Nunez had featured in the 2026 World Cup, but was not able to impress, as Uruguay made a shock exit in the group stages.

Who else is linked to Nunez?

As it stands, Liverpool are the firm favourites to secure Nunez’s signature. However, multiple other clubs have not been ruled out of the race.

Newcastle’s chance currently sit at 6/1, as they also look to solve their attacking problems this summer.

AC Milan have also not been ruled out yet, with the Italian giants being 8/1 to win the race.

Barcelona are considered outsiders at 10/1, while Juventus sit at 12/1 odds.

A stay at Al-Hilal is not ruled out, but is deemed unlikely at 10/1 ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen where Nunez will be playing his football next season as he looks to get his career back on track after an awful few months in Saudi Arabia and at the 2026 World Cup.
