Liverpool can sign Michael Olise without breaching financial rules - top source
Liverpool have no concerns about their ability to afford a potential deal to sign Michael Olise from Bayern Munich.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Reds have ample SCR “headroom” to be able to get a deal done.
This comes amid uncertainty surrounding Olise’s contract at Bayern, and growing suggestions that he could potentially depart the German champions to take on a new challenge next summer.
Wyness doesn’t see an issue for Liverpool when it comes to affording what would be a price tag in excess of £100million, but feels that the club will be reluctant to spend that much until they can get Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola firing.
The former is still struggling to adapt to the Premier League after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2025, while Barcola is without a goal or an assist in his opening four league games.
Liverpool’s ability to afford a move for Olise is undoubted, but Wyness believes they must think carefully before they act in any way.
Liverpool could take ‘real gamble’ with Michael Olise
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Liverpool would be taking a “real gamble” by adding another £100m-plus player to their group.
He feels that getting Wirtz and Barcola firing must be the club's immediate priority before they think about bringing in another elite talent.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that Liverpool’s finances will have no issue facilitating a move for Olise.
“Yeah, I think we looked at the Turkish Airlines deal coming onto the shirt next season and the good revenue situation that Liverpool are in, so I think there's no question they could afford to do it,” he said.
“The bigger question for me is, should they be doing it right now? They've got Barcola and Wirtz, both £100m-plus purchases, and they're both not really firing yet; then it becomes a real gamble in that sense, bringing another one in.
“I think they've got to try and get Barcola firing by January and Wirtz firing soon after. Then if you were to bring in Olise next summer, then that would make sense; then you've suddenly got things going.
“In terms of the financial side, there's not an issue, I don't think, with Liverpool being able to do it, and with SCR headroom as well, I don't see an issue there.
“It's more about the football side, and you don't want another one coming in with the pressure all on him to try and salvage the other two.”
Liverpool will be ‘all over’ Olise move
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Liverpool will be “all over” a move to sign Olise if he becomes available.
The Merseysiders are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, who is in contention to win the Ballon D’Or this year.
Brown is adamant that the “whispers” surrounding Olise’s contract situation will have put Liverpool on red alert.
The former Crystal Palace ace has become one of the world’s best players since moving to the Bundesliga, and ended last season with 53 goal involvements to his name.
