Liverpool are "confident" that they will tie winger Rio Ngumoha down to a new contract in the coming months, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old starlet is heading towards the conclusion of his current deal in the summer of 2028, but there is "optimism" from all sides that an extension is not too far away.

The wideman has become a key part of Liverpool's plans, and is also forging a growing reputation for himself as part of the senior England setup.

Sources say that Ngumoha's camp are keen to strike a deal that reflects his rapid rise and newfound status within Andoni Iraola's squad.

Liverpool are also hopeful that they can reach a long-term agreement with Ngumoha and extend his stay at Anfield well beyond the current 2028 arrangement.

The forward has started just one Premier League game so far this season, but has continued to impress in cameo roles.

Rio Ngumoha in line for bigger role at Liverpool

Ngumoha quickly wowed Liverpool fans after bursting onto the scene last season, and he has quickly become a fully-fledged first-team player at Anfield.

He became the club's youngest-ever goalscorer when he netted a stoppage-time winner away at Newcastle in August 2025, and has only kicked on since then.

Ngumoha went on to make 19 Premier League appearances last term, and the plan is for him to gain even more exposure this time around.

Liverpool are ready to hand the starlet more and more minutes as the campaign progresses, and view him as the future of their wide options.

The Reds may have worked hard to overhaul their squad in recent years, but their plans for Ngumoha are only growing bigger with every passing week.

Ismaila Sarr to 'agree' deal after Liverpool move fell through

Ismaila Sarr to agree deal after failed Liverpool move

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Monday that Ismaila Sarr is closing in on securing a new deal at Crystal Palace.

The Senegal international came close to moving to Liverpool in the summer, and he even pulled out of training in order to try and force the move through.

However, Brown is now adamant that the Eagles are close to an "agreement" for a new long-term deal for Sarr, which would end any chance of him moving to Anfield.

The Reds were keen to bring in the 28-year-old on the wing, but were instead able to land Bradley Barcola in a statement deal.
