Liverpool should not entertain letting midfielder Curtis Jones leave the club and join a Premier League rival.

That is according to ex-Aston Villa, Everton and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, amid Jones being linked with a move to Villa Park this summer.

Jones' contract at Liverpool expires in 2027, and the midfielder could be weighing up his options to whether to leave Merseyside in the next transfer window.

The 25-year-old, who came through the academy at Liverpool, is not a guaranteed starter at the club amid competition for places at Anfield.

Liverpool are set to rebuild their squad this summer, and it remains to be seen whether Jones is part of the club's long-term plans.

Liverpool backed to keep Curtis Jones

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - states he would be "surprised" if Liverpool were to allow Jones to leave the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Harvey Elliott, on loan at Aston Villa from Liverpool, could have a part to play in any deal.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’d be surprised if Liverpool were to let Jones go.

"Whilst Liverpool have had rough patches, Jones has been one that seems to have shone through and shown the sort of grit and determination that’s needed right now. I don’t see him as a Villa player, and so I doubt that is going to happen.

"With Harvey Elliott, there’s no doubt Jones will have spoken to him, and it’s not worked out for Elliott over there, and he’ll be looking for a fresh lease of life. Maybe there’ll be some deal there to be done.

"I don’t know, but I just don’t see that one happening for Villa. I don’t think it’s a good fit and I think Liverpool will be better served keeping Jones in the squad.”

Liverpool make managerial decision

Sources have told Football Insider, that Liverpool are to stick with manager Arne Slot for next season, as the Reds look set to secure Champions League qualification.

Fans have called for a change in the dugout, as Slot's side have failed to compete for the Premier League title, and will end the season without a trophy.

The pressure could be on the Dutchman from the beginning of next season, with former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso currently without a club and available for work after being sacked by Real Madrid in January.
