Matty Young could be Liverpool's problem-solver, his stats are off the charts
Sunderland starlet Matty Young could potentially be about to provide an unexpected long-term answer to the goalkeeping issues at Liverpool.
The Reds have been linked with a surprise move for the Huddersfield Town loanee, who is tipped to have a huge future ahead of him at his parent club.
Alisson is out of contract at Anfield next summer and faces major doubts surrounding his future, while Giorgi Mamardashvili also lacks the consistency to start.
Recent reports suggest that Liverpool view Young as a potential future number one for them, but would need to spend in order to tempt Sunderland into a sale.
The 19-year-old impressed during a pair of loan spells with League Two side Salford City in recent years, and has now stepped up to League One with Huddersfield this term.
He has immediately become the starting goalkeeper for a team that has every chance of securing promotion to the Championship, and that progress has caught plenty of attention at Anfield.
Matty Young on clear upward trajectory
Young is extremely highly rated at Sunderland, and they only tied him down to a new contract in the summer.
The Black Cats view the starlet as the successor to Robin Roefs between the posts, according to Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, and would demand a sizeable fee from Liverpool.
However, Young has already produced ample evidence to suggest that he would be a worthwhile long-term investment for the Merseysiders.
His performances for Salford last season saw him end with 15 clean sheets, the joint-third-highest of all League Two keepers.
He also ranked in the division's top three for goals prevented with a total of 5.1, while he also ranked in the top five for save percentage with 71.1 per cent.
Young is already an England international at U19 level, and is clearly on a sharp upward trajectory through the divisions at the moment.
Liverpool arguably need a project to develop in their goalkeeping department over the next few years, and Young would be the perfect fit for them.
Alisson listening to Liverpool exit offers
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Alisson will be listening to any offers that come in for him to leave Liverpool in the coming months.
The ex-recruitment man does not expect the Reds to offer the Brazilian a new deal before the final weeks of the campaign, if at all, but at 33, the veteran needs more security than that.
Alisson received interest from top European clubs during the summer transfer window, most notably from Juventus, who hold a long-term admiration of him.
Brown is adamant that the stopper will consider any options that open up for him in the coming months, as his Liverpool exit grows ever closer.
