Sources: Roma work on Mohamed Salah deal after 'huge' Besiktas offer
Roma are trying to lure Liverpool star Mohamed Salah after he was offered a deal by Besiktas, sources have told Football Insider.
The Serie A outfit are discussing a potential deal for the 34-year-old winger with the player’s agent.
Football Insider revealed that Salah has attracted huge interest from clubs in Serie A, Turkey, the MLS and Saudi Pro League.
Now, Roma are looking to win the race to his signature, with Salah previously loving his time in the Serie A, where he played for the capital club and Fiorentina.
The Saudi Pro League had long been the favourite to secure a deal for the Egypt international. However, the ongoing war in the Middle East could sway him to move elsewhere.
Besiktas are working on a deal for Salah and are believed to have offered him a record-breaking contract to pair him with new signing Leandro Trossard.
Salah departed Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the 2025-26 campaign after nine years at the club.
Can Mohamed Salah still be effective in the Serie A
When playing for Roma between 2015 and 2017, Salah was sensational.
Overall, he netted 34 goals in 83 matches, which helped him win Roma’s Player of the Season Award for the 2015-16 campaign.
However, if he is to return to the capital, there is every chance that he will be just as effective.
According to Fotmob on 18 July, Salah still boasted plenty of excellent stats in the Premier League in the 2025-26 campaign, despite his tricky season.
Overall, he averaged 0.29 goals, a 0.34 xG, 2.85 shots, 0.29 assists, 2.05 chances created and 7.84 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.
Therefore, if these stats can be replicated, he could prove to be a massive asset for Roma ahead of the upcoming season.
Salah could face Liverpool next season
Salah is no doubt one of Liverpool’s biggest legends.
The winger helped transform the Reds from an underachieving giant into one of the best sides the Premier League had ever witnessed.
However, fans could be set to see Salah play against them in the 2026-27 campaign.
If Roma are able to complete a deal for the winger, there is a chance Salah could come up against Liverpool in the Champions League.
Both teams have qualified for the competition, which could lead to the Egypt international returning to Anfield in the coming months.
