Lois Openda ‘open’ to Leeds United move as star ‘explores’ transfer

Lois Openda is “open” to the idea of joining Leeds United in the Premier League this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old striker is currently “exploring” his options ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Juventus looking to offload him after his loan move from RB Leipzig recently became permanent.

Openda and his camp are searching for a move that would provide him with regular football, and sources have indicated that he will have a wide range of potential suitors after his previously strong record at RB Leipzig.

The Belgian managed 33 goals across two campaigns in the Bundesliga, and is hoping to find the right environment to help him return to that form next term.

That could be at Elland Road, with Leeds keen to sign Openda on a loan-to-buy deal this summer, and Juventus increasingly likely to oblige.

Lois Openda deal to form part of £100m spend at Leeds

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider at the end of April that Leeds are set to spend £100million on new additions this summer, as they look to pull away from the relegation zone next term.

The football finance expert made it clear that the Whites are set to spend in a measured fashion once again, rather than taking a gung-ho approach to their summer business.

Borson outlined that Leeds are most likely to target the rest of Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues for most of their summer additions, rather than the expensive Premier League market.

A move for Openda could form part of that approach, with the West Yorkshire outfit keen to try to find value from unexpected sources this summer.

They already have a new striker towards the top of their shopping list for the upcoming window, and a move for Openda is firmly in their sights ahead of next season.

Whites already have sale lined up to counter summer spending

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Leeds will allow Sebastiaan Bornauw to find a new club this summer, if he wants to move in search of more regular gametime.

The Whites are already lining up moves for new centre-backs, and that is expected to push the Belgian even further down the pecking order at Elland Road.

Ladislav Krejci and Danilho Doekhi are both in the sights of Farke and Co., and success with those pursuits could effectively put the writing on the wall for Bornauw.

Farke is expected to continue with the back three formation that has served his team well in recent months, but Bornauw will be allowed to decide his own future, provided Leeds get adequate cover in.

He has been unable to break beyond the likes of Jaka Bijol and Pascal Struijk in the pecking order this term, and he is set to pay the price for that this summer.
