London club make enquiry for La Liga defender after Tottenham decision - report
By Harvey Byrne
London rivals Chelsea have made an enquiry for Valencia defender Joao Cancelo after Tottenham decided to cool their interest at the weekend, according to a report.
The Daily Mail have claimed on their website that Spurs are currently deciding against making a move for the 23-year-old.
However, Chelsea who are also on the search for a new full-back this summer are said to have asked Valencia about his situation at the La Liga club.
It is reported that Cancelo has been a priority for Serie A giants Juventus this summer, who are prepared to pay as much as £25million for him as they seek a replacement for Dani Alves.
That price-tag may be what is steering Tottenham away from attempting to strike a deal for the four-time capped Portugal international.

However, Chelsea have shown in recent seasons, including this summer that they are not shy in splashing the cash and they could now move for Cancelo, who has four years remaining on his contract.
Football Insider verdict:
Cancelo is a talented player, but Tottenham have shown that they are unwilling to get caught in the player value inflation which has surfaced this summer and they are certainly not going to splash out £25million on a right-back. The north London club have received an initial £45million from Manchester City for their own star full-back Kyle Walker this summer. However, while it is clear that Tottenham need to replace him, especially following the injury suffered to Kieran Trippier they should not be splashing huge figures on players unproven at both international and Premier League level.
