Premier League side Chelsea are planning to hold transfer talks with Everton after the two sides meet over a deal for attacker Ross Barkley, according to a report.
The Sun have claimed on their website that the south London side will begin negotiations over a £30million deal for the 23-year-old after the two clubs’ Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.
However, London rivals Tottenham are also said to want to sign Barkley and the Sun report states that Spurs are willing to pay as much as £28million for the 22-time England international.
But, the young attacker is also reported to want “around” £150,000-a-week and while that could cause issues with Tottenham, it wouldn’t so much for Chelsea, who are known for splashing the cash.
Barkley himself is suffering with a hamstring injury currently, but it is believed Everton boss Ronald Koeman is open to letting him leave as he has entered the final year of his contract.
Football Insider verdict:
Talks of both Chelsea and Tottenham chasing Barkley for fees believed to be around £30million only highlights the lack of scouting currently going on in the Premier League. There are far better attacking players than Barkley around Europe, who wouldn’t command such a price. Yes, Barkley has previously proven himself to be capable of playing in England’s top-flight, but he is nowhere near consistent enough to be worth around £30million. Spurs wasted a similar amount on Moussa Sissoko last summer and if they did the same on Barkley this year then it would simply show that they haven’t learned from past mistakes.
In other Tottenham transfer news, a report has named six potential new Spurs additions before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
