'Looks very good' - Alan Hutton head over heels for Villa defender facing 'Difficult times'
Alan Hutton has been left raving over the performances of Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert after establishing himself as a mainstay in the starting XI under Dean Smith.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and Scotland star says he has been mightily impressed with what he has seen from the French full-back, highlighting his ability to make a contribution at both ends of the pitch.
The 24-year-old, who originally signed from Caen back in January but only joined up with the Villans in the summer, has played 11 times for the midlands outfit this season, with 10 of those appearances coming among the starting XI in the Premier League.
Having seen Guilbert take his place on the right-hand side of the Villa defence, Hutton says the Frenchman is showing all the necessary skills to make a success of himself among England’s elite.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s done well since he’s come in, good pace which helps out, especially in the Premier League.
“You need to be quick, especially playing against some of these players and it’s going to be difficult, you’re going to have difficult times but he’s handled himself well.

“Not only that, he’s got himself forward, he’s been involved in the attacking play as well. He looks very good, he looks like a good player that’s come in and done well. Hopefully, he can build on that, continue to play well and go from strength to strength. I really like him as a player.”
Guilbert’s one and only goal for the Villans to date came in the League Cup win over Crewe Alexandra, while he has managed to contribute two assists in his Premier League outings.
He has Ahmed Elmohamady for competition on the right of the backline, the Egyptian international starting twice in his six top-flight appearances.
