Luiz is 'brilliant' and this is how he has gone to next level at Aston Villa - pundit

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on “brilliant” Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz following his performance against Norwich City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 23-year-old “is shining” under the management of Steven Gerrard.

Luiz produced another stellar display on Tuesday night as the Claret and Blue won 2-0 at Carrow Road.

Speaking to club media after the win (14 December), Gerrard said that “there were a lot of top performances” from his players.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Luiz’s form, Campbell said: “Luiz has always been a brilliant player.

“I expected him to have a good season this year.

“He is shining under Gerrard because there seems to be more onus on him. Gerrard knows the position inside out.

“He probably watched him in training and said, ‘Listen, I expect a little bit more from you.’ Luiz is doing it which is great.

“I am not surprised by Luiz’s quality though because he’s from Man City. They don’t sign bad players.”

Luiz has provided three assists in his 13 Premier League appearances this season.

Villa have won four of their six fixtures since Gerrard’s appointment with their only losses coming against Manchester City and Liverpool.

In other news, a pundit has claimed Aston Villa are expected to sign a forward in January after what Carragher was told.
