Sources: Luton forward set to join Oxford United on loan

Luton Town forward Elliot Lee is set to join Oxford United on loan for the remainder of the season, Football Insider understands.

The 26-year-old has not started for the Championship side in the league since a 1-1 draw with Birmingham on 24 November.

A recruitment source told Football Insider that a deal between the two clubs is expected to be finalised before the transfer window shuts at 11pm.

The news comes after Football Insider revealed that West Brom forward Kyle Edwards is set to join the Hatters on loan.

A versatile forward, Lee has been deployed as a left-winger, conventional centre-forward, attacking-midfielder and central-midfielder throughout his Luton career.

He joined the club in 2017 having enjoyed a loan spell at Kenilworth Road two seasons earlier.

A West Ham academy graduate, Lee made seven appearances with the Hammers between 2012 and 2016.

He was sent out on several loan spells in that time, with Colchester United, Southend United and Blackpool as well as his current club Luton all taking him on a temporary basis.

He signed for Barnsley in a permanent deal in June 2016 but left the club a year later having failed to make a single start in South Yorkshire.

He switched to Luton when they were in League Two and enjoyed back-to-back promotions with the club as well as the most successful individual seasons of his career.

He scored 24 goals across those two campaigns but has netted just three times since the club was promoted to the second-tier.

In Oxford, he joins a side three points outside the Play-Off places and gunning for promotion in League One.

They are undefeated in their last 12 games across all competitions and manager Karl Robinson will be hoping that Lee can help continue their momentum.

In other news, Oxford United have rejected a six-figure bid for midfielder Cameron Brannagan from Millwall.
