Alan Hutton has suggested that Jonathan Kodjia will be straight back in the Aston Villa squad after the international break after recovering from his cheekbone injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa and Scotland star says that the Ivory Coast international, who has been seen once all season after suffering a freak injury on the training ground, has the ability to create something out of nothing and that Dean Smith could use that in his side.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Norwich City, which the Villans won 5-1, Smith confirmed that the 29-year-old would be available after the international break, having sat the last seven Premier League games out.

Hutton, who played 70 times alongside the former Bristol City forward, says that he could make a big difference up front for Smith and that he expects an immediate return to side.

Asked if Kodjia would be back in the squad after the international break, Hutton told Football Insider: “Yeah, I would say so. He gives you something different. He’s that kind of player that you could put on with 20 minutes to go and he could give you a bit of magic – cut in from the wing and bang in a screamer, I’ve seen him do it numerous times.

“He’s definitely a quality player, he can give you something a little bit different. I would have him there. You could need something like that to turn things around.”

Kodjia is closing in on 100 appearances for the Villans, with 29 goals in his 98 outings for the midlands giants.

He played a total of 43 times last season, firing home nine times to help Villa to the play-offs, featuring in both semi-finals before being left as an unused substitute in the final.

In other Aston Villa news, Darren Bent claims that Villa fans would love to see a South American forward sign this season as Dean Smith sets his sights on a transfer deal.
