Last summer saw a major influx of new arrivals at Leeds United but it all seemed to be quantity over quality, judging by how the season has gone.

Very few of the Whites’ new signings have lived up to expectation and even those who have impressed, including Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski, have blotted their copy books throughout the campaign.

With the summer transfer market approaching quickly, it looks as though there could well be another overhaul on the horizon, and many of those brought in 12 months ago could be facing an early exit from Elland Road after a bitterly disappointing season in which few can hold their heads high.

One man who fans would have been expecting much more from was Dutch utility man Vurnon Anita, the 29-year-old arriving on a free transfer from Newcastle United.

Utilised as a right back, left back and a midfielder, the diminutive figure has made 22 appearances across all competitions, but has hardly set the Championship on fire with his performances.

His mediocre displays have seen him usurped in the starting XI by the likes of young talents Matthew Pennington and Tom Pearce, and as if his season could not get much more disappointing, he has been handed a major bombshell.

BBC reporter Adam Pope has confirmed on his personal Twitter account that Anita, as well as Connor Shaughnessy, have had surgeries on ankle injuries, and after that huge revelation there is every chance the former Magpie has played his last game for the club.

Having failed to show the desired performances to push for a top six finish, and with the prospect of a big profit off his sale this summer, shipping him out could well be for the best of the team, clearing up space in terms of both squad size and wages as well as providing some much needed funds to bolster the side.
