Rangers are set to pull the plug on their pursuit of Jack Wilshere after being told he is set to head overseas.
Steven Gerrard has been in contact with the England international, 28, about a potential free transfer to Ibrox and was hopeful of agreeing a shock deal after his exit from West Ham earlier this month.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Wilshere is weighing up multiple offers and is veering towards moving overseas for a new chapter in his injury-plagued career.
The midfielder has spoken about potentially joining a Serie A or La Liga club, while he has also been targeted by MLS teams.
Rangers are now set to back out of the race for a player Gerrard knows well from his England and Premier League days.
He is a free agent after West Ham agreed a pay-off for the remaining nine months of his contract.
The Premier League club were so eager to get the central midfielder off their wage bill they paid up 85 per cent of his package at what a source explained came at a cost of £3million for the Hammers.
Wilshere made just 19 appearances for the east Londoners following his 2018 move from Arsenal.

He had been frozen out of the side by manager David Moyes before his departure despite claiming he was fully fit.
The 34-times England international was once regarded as potential Premier League and national team great but has struggled to live up to his early promise after breaking into the Arsenal first XI aged 16.
