By Harvey Byrne

Rangers fans have posted their well wishes on Twitter after young midfielder Max Ashmore announced he would be leaving the club on Thursday evening.

The 18-year-old central midfielder has never played for the Gers’ first team, but he has been within the club’s youth ranks since he was 10 while he is also a lifelong fan of the Scottish giants.

However, with his contract expiring at the Ibrox club at the end of the season the teenager shared that he would be leaving the club while also thanking the fans, staff and everyone associated with Rangers via a message on his personal Twitter account.

The fans reacted very positively to Ashmore’s message on social media with the supporters keen to see their youngster’s go far in the game even if they are released.

Many were keen to urge the teenager to get his head down and kick on despite the setback, while others shared that they had hoped to see him back at the club one day.

Rangers have a prestigious academy which has brought through a number of top quality players in recent history, including Chris Burke, Alan Hutton, Charlie Adam and Ross McCormack.

They also have youngsters David Bates and Myles Beerman in the first team at the moment, while young trio Andrew Dallas, Serge Atakayi and Jamie Barjonas all made the bench against Partick Thistle on Sunday with Barjonas coming on for his first appearance in the 2-1 win.

It is now unfortunate that Ashmore has been released, but he will be buoyed by the positive result from fans.

In other Rangers news, Gers fans may be intrigued by this agent story involving one of their ex players.
