Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Man City to sign a new top-class left-back this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker delivered his verdict as City's first-choice target Marc Cucurella looks set to sign for Chelsea.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday (4 August) that Chelsea have agreed a £55million initial fee plus £7million in add-ons for Cucurella.

Football Insider reported earlier this summer that Man City had agreed personal terms with the 23-year-old.

However, they were unwilling to budge on their £40million valuation of the Brighton star allowing Chelsea to hijack the deal.

Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports on Friday (5 August) that there is still plenty of time for the club to sign a new left-back.

But Agbonlahor has insisted they will not be "held to ransom" by a selling club.

"I think they will [sign a left-back]," Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"To have no recognised left-back as [Joao] Cancelo is a right-back playing left-back, a club like Man City should have a left-footed left-back.

"Maybe they will look around and find someone for the right fee. I'm sure they won't be held to ransom for a big fee when they don't think the player is worth it."

As well as Cancelo, Guardiola has Nathan Ake and youngster Josh Wilson-Esbrand who are capable of filling in at left-back.

Oleksandr Zinchenko played 15 Premier League games, including 10 starts, at left-back for Man City in 2021-22 but joined Arsenal in a £30million deal this summer.
