Manchester City have hijacked Tottenham’s bid to sign Northern Ireland teenage sensation Charlie Allen, Football Insider can reveal.
The sought-after attacking midfielder, 15, has headed to City’s training headquarters for a trial as they step up their attempts to convince him to sign.
A City source has told Football Insider the club are keen to beat Tottenham to the youngster’s signature after he was invited to the London club for talks and a trial.
Spurs were in pole position to secure the signature of Allen but City could now leapfrog them as they look to make an offer to the highly-rated teenager.
The 15-year-old became Linfield’s youngest-ever debutant when he made his first-team bow in their final game of last season.
He does not turn 16 until November and has been described by Linfield Academy director Glenn Ferguson as “one of the brightest prospects” he has seen.
Allen is now seemingly set to continue his football development with a glamour move to one of the Premier League elite.
Linfield are resigned to losing Allen in the near future and they are now braced for offers from some of the world’s biggest clubs for their prize asset.
