Man City news: Pundit issues 'crazy' Paul Pogba claim as transfer twist reported

Man City would be “crazy not to pursue” the signing of Man United midfielder Paul Pogba this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 29-year-old would be “a great” addition to Pep Guardiola’s side given his experience, locality and status as a free agent.

Pogba‘s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of June and the France international is set to exit on a free.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (9 May), the centre-midfielder received a flattering offer from City, who want to replace Fernandinho this summer.

However, Pogba is said to have opted against the proposal after giving it serious contemplation.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the latest twist in Pogba’s future, Campbell said: “For Manchester City a move for Pogba makes a lot of sense.

“Pogba is a world-class player, living in Manchester, who is available on a free. He does not have to be integrated too much because he knows the Premier League and the area.

“It would be a great move for Man City. I truly believe that.

“The key is getting him. That is the difficult part. There is a lot of water under that bridge anyway. It doesn’t sound like it is going to work out. He looks to be going abroad. It is one that Man City would be crazy not to pursue.”
