Man United fans have posted on social media after reports that the club may re-sign Alvaro Fernandez if a deal for Patrick Dorgu falls through.

Ruben Amorim's side have loaned out Antony to Real Betis this January, which currently stands as the only first-team transfer this window.

The Portuguese manager is in desperate need of some wing-backs who are comfortable playing in his three-at-the-back system.

Dorgu, of Lecce in Italy, has been identified as a player who would fit the system well, and United look to be closing in on a deal worth £30million for the defender [Sky Sports].

Man United fans want Alvaro Fernandez return from Benfica

It has now been revealed that former Red Devil, Fernandez, has a £15million buy-back clause [Daily Mail] in his contract at Benfica, and many United fans would prefer to see him re-join over Dorgu.

The Spaniard has blossomed since leaving United permanently in the summer, and with Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw having near-permanent fitness issues, Fernandez could be a perfect alternative.

Having been at the club between 2020 and 2024, he has experience in the United set-up, and that has made him a preferable alternative for many fans.

One fan called the deal for Dorgu a "ripoff", whilst another said "United will just end up obsessing over Dorgu and pay over the odds".
