Man United are close to agreeing a deal for Antony to leave the club this month, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the club have been active in their attempts to move the 24-year-old on this month.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed in October that United were set to entertain loan offers for Antony in the January transfer window.

Now, reports have claimed an agreement has been reached with Spanish outfit Real Betis to take the Brazil international on loan for the rest of the season.

Brown explained that the Red Devils had been hopeful of reaching an agreement since before the window, and had accepted that a loan deal would be the best option.

Since the arrival of Ruben Amorim, Antony has made just six Premier League appearances, all of which have come from the bench as he struggled to make his mark under the new boss.

Now with a move away from Old Trafford edging closer, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment, has insisted that

"I'm told United have been looking to shift him for a while," he told Football Insider.

"They were looking for potential suitors and I think they're getting closer to that now, because he is no longer a part of their plans going forward.

"In my judgement, he is the worst player to have ever played for Manchester United.

"There's nothing about his game that would convince United that they'd be better off keeping him.

"I'm not particularly convinced about his attitude, either, from things I've seen and heard.

"I think a loan move has come up because they couldn't find anyone willing to pay a big fee for him. They're never going to get anywhere close to the money they spent on him."
