Manchester United are exploring a potential move for Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, sources have told Football Insider

The Premier League could get in contact with the soon-to-be Premier League club over a deal for McKenna, whose contract is set to run until 2027.

The Northern Irishman is highly regarded by senior Man United staff, including club director Sir Alex Ferguson.

McKenna, 38, also knows some of the younger players at Old Trafford very well after previously undertaking various coaching roles at the club, which saw him rising from overseeing the youth teams to assisting Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer with the first team.

United need a patient rebuild and McKenna would be given time to implement his style if he were to replace Erik ten Hag as the new manager.

The same leniency wouldn’t apply if Thomas Tuchel were appointed as he would be expected to hit the ground running and would need big signings to be made immediately.

Man United could appoint Kieran McKenna as new manager

Football Insider revealed earlier this month Ten Hag will be sacked following Man United’s disappointing campaign

McKenna presents a different option for the club’s hierarchy as his career looks to be firmly on the way up after securing back-to-back promotions with Ipswich.

Tuchel, however, has endured a difficult season at Bayern Munich and is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

But Football Insider revealed on 15 May the Bundesliga giants are now planning new talks with the German boss over his position after making a lack of progress in their search for his successor.

That means McKenna could jump to the top of Man United's wish list in a new managerial twist at the club.
