Bayern Munich are planning new talks with Thomas Tuchel over an "extraordinary" U-turn in a potential blow to Manchester United, sources have told Football Insider.

The Bundesliga giants will discuss the possibility of the 50-year-old staying on as their manager despite the club confirming in an official statement he will leave his role at the end of the season.

The German club are exploring the shock move after being rejected by Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Unai Emery, Ralf Rangnick and Oliver Glasner in recent months.

Football Insider revealed last month Tuchel has emerged as the top contender to replace Erik ten Hag if he is sacked by Man United at the end of the season.

But if the 50-year-old were to remain with Bayern, Old Trafford chiefs would be forced to pursue other targets in their search for a new manager.

It would mark quite a turn of events if Tuchel were to stay at Bayern after his departure was announced back in February.

The Bundesliga club are likely reconsidering his position due to the lack of progress they have made in appointing his successor.

Bayern have endured a difficult season by their standards, with unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen running away with the league title.

Tuchel is one of the names under consideration to replace Ten Hag at Man United after Football Insider revealed earlier this month he will be sacked following their disappointing campaign.

The Red Devils sit eighth in the Premier League table and are currently unlikely to secure European football for next season.

Football Insider revealed last month Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is also in the frame to be the next Man United manager as club chiefs continue to assess their options.
