Man United have already sorted Cavani replacement after 'agreement' reached - pundit

Mason Greenwood is ready to step up and fill the void left by Edinson Cavani’s potential exit from Man United, according to Kevin Campbell.

The ex-Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, expects Rangnick to allow Cavani, 34, to leave the club to aid Greenwood’s development.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT (20 December), Barcelona have reached ‘agreement in principle’ with the Uruguay international.

However, it is reported that Manchester United are yet to sanction the transfer.

Cavani has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the blockbuster signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

His contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of next June.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Cavani’s future, Campbell said: “I think Cavani’s age is perhaps going against him.

“Ronaldo is the main man now so do they really need Cavani?

“Ralf Rangnick will want to change things a little bit. It’s important to remember the likes of Greenwood has not got a lot of game time recently and he has not done anything wrong. He has hardly had a game of late, so the replacement is already there.

“Maybe Rangnick has told Cavani he will not get much game time this season and if that’s the case it’s right for him to move on.”

Cavani has made eight appearances across all competitions this season.

He has missed United’s last eight Premier League fixtures through injury.
