Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Man United is a PR masterstroke from the Glazers.

So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after United confirmed the deal on deadline day.

The legendary striker signed for the Red Devils from Juventus 12 years after he first left the club.

And the spreadsheet guru also claims that the Glazers have scored a PR victory after a period of animosity with the fans.

"The Glazers are desperate to prove to the fanbase that they are sincere," he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

"We always said the 'big six' clubs would spend big this summer because they've got to win over the fanbase.

"If Man United win the Premier League off the back of this, it would be positive for the Glazers on a variety of levels.

"First of all, there would be less pressure on them. Secondly, it helps their Uefa coefficient.

"If you win the Premier League, you get 40 per cent of one of the prize money pools rather than 30 per cent.

"So there are financial benefits. But from a PR point of view, this is a huge coup for United."

Ronaldo became the all-time leading international goalscorer after netting a brace for Portugal against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

He could make his second United debut against Wolves after the international break on 11 September.
