Man United are planning to offer Harry Maguire a new contract at the end of the season, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 32-year-old has established himself as a key member of Ruben Amorim's squad.

As a result, the boss is keen to ensure he remains at the club beyond his contract's current expiry date of June 2026, even if not as a first-team regular.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in January that Maguire would hold sit-down talks with Amorim about his future at the club.

The centre-back is keen to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future and talks over the offer of a new deal are expected to be a formality.

This decision represents a U-turn for the defener, who had previously been expected to leave the club before Brown told Football Insider Maguire has now won over Amorim.

Man United make Harry Maguire contract decision

Man United triggered their option to extend Maguire's contract by one year in January to ensure they would not lose him for free at the end of his deal.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, has insisted they are now set to guarantee his future with the offer of a new deal.

"I expect Harry Maguire will be offered a new contract," he told Football Insider.

"When Man United's struggles began, there were a lot of fingers pointed at him, but he's come through that brilliantly and is now an important part of the squad.

"He has consistently been their most impressive and reliable defender.

"He's a really valuable player for Amorim, and one I hear he wants to keep at the club.

"At 32, he's probably not going to be a regular in the starting XI for much longer, but even as a squad player and dressing room leader he'll be important.

"There's one year left on his deal at the moment, but they want him to stay beyond that.

"He wants to stay as well, from what I'm told, so it shouldn't be too difficult to agree terms."

Chelsea plot move to sign Alejandro Garnacho

Amid speculation about Maguire's future at the club, another player who could be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer is Alejandro Garnacho.

Brown told Football Insider on 5 May that Chelsea are plotting a move to sign Garnacho after missing out in the January transfer window.

United, meanwhile, are open to letting him leave alongside Kobbie Mainoo as they aim to raise funds through player sales this summer.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in February that Garnacho is questioning his future at Man United after missing out on a mid-season move.
